TLU creates scholarship to attract UT, Texas A&M students - San Antonio Business Journal:

http://afiruweg.wordpress.com/
The program is called TLU CHOICE and it stands for Creating Hope and Opportunityin College. The goal of the scholarshio program is to give students the chance to attend a privatw liberal arts college for the same cost of attendinbg a public collegeor university. The scholarship is available to first-time, incomin freshman and transfer students who were granted regulart admission to TLU and to eithert UT orTexas A&j for the same academic According to TLU officials, the amounty of the scholarship will be determined by takiny the cost of attendance at TLU and subtracting the cost of attendancs at Texas A&M or UT.
Students who qualifh will get a scholarship equal to the differencde of those twotuition amounts. • Incoming freshmen must seek full-timw enrollment for the fall semester. • Transfet students are required to have at leasft 54transferable hours, a cumulative 3.0 GPA and must seek full-tim admission to the fall or spriny semesters. • Meet the deadlinde for application. Freshmen must be admittedd to TLU byMay 1, 2009, and transfefr students must be admitted by June 1, for fall 2009 enrollment. Students have untik Dec. 1, 2009, to apply for the Spring 2010 semester. Studentse who receive the CHOICE scholarship cannot combine it with otherd academic scholarships awardedby TLU.
However, studentzs who are eligible toreceive non-academic TLU scholarships as well as federall and state financial aid will receive those grants in addition to the CHOICsE award. Freshmen students can receive the CHOICE scholarship for eighy semesters and transfer studenta forsix semesters, as long as the studeng maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0. TLU Vice Presidenft for Enrollment Services Norm Jone s says the new scholarship gives studentzs access to a privateuniversity education.
“TLUy CHOICE college scholarship is for studentsx who excel academically and would prefer smallerr class sizes in a privateuniversity environment, but don’ think they can afford it,” Jones says. “Large state schoolds with thousands ofstudents aren’t for everyone. With our new colleges scholarship program, students have a choice about theieeducation — without worrying that a private universityt costs more.” Texas Lutheran Universitty is a liberal arts, sciences and professional studiesx undergraduate university. There is more to building these stadiumsd than merely sowing grass and settinhup bleachers, and architects play a large role in turninh the respective schools’ goals into viable facilities.
Architects must make sure new buildingss mesh with the designs and architecture of the othetr buildingson campus. They must also ensures proper sightlines for fans and allow for proper vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow in and out of the saysBob Land, architect for , Inc. His firm designef St. George’s complex, which is used by both the upper andmiddle school. The football, lacrosse and track and fielxd facilities are being built in stages while the school acquires the funding tocomplete “Flexibility was one of their requirements,” Land Land says the stadium will featurer concessions, restroom buildings and locker rooms under the bleachers.
The fieldc is sunk down so the buildings will be in compliance withthe 100-Year Flood Plan and also to allow for betterr sightlines for the crowd. “Parents volunteeringg can still see theirkids playing,” he St. George’s also implemented stadium which Land says havebecome commonplace, that use 60% less energhy than traditional stadium lighting. MUS built its $3.7 milliohn multi-sport stadium in which replacedthe 40-year-old, 500-seat aluminum bleachert facility which athletic director Bobby Alston says was becominyg unsafe.
“We were looking to build something that had bettetr sightlines to the field and was up to date as far as the pres box area and thosed type of thingsare concerned,” Alston says. Metcalrf Crump, president of , Inc., and a MUS alumnus, designec the new complex whichseats 1,4090 and features a synthetic turf playing surface, tracki and field facilities, restrooms and ticket and memorabili a sales areas. The new grandstand also features apress box, video area, coaches’ box and a “VIP suite.

We solved this problem by designinyg the new stadium partly arounsdthe pylons.

"The major story in thesd places is very rapidpopulation growth, with seasonal residents and tourists coming in," says Mark senior economist with Wachovia Corp. in N.C. "That has really set off a building boom," he says. "There'se a mad rush to builfd infrastructure.
And all the services that benefi t from increasingpopulation -- financial services, retail trade, health care -- are all doingy well." North Texas companies suspend dividends - Houston Business Journal:

ocybakenos.wordpress.com
A growing number of North Texas public companiex are cutting back or suspending dividend paymentsd to preserve cash and prepare forthe “Generally the rule in the (post-Worldx War II) economy, you coul see recession, stock markets fall apart, and dividends were only mildlt cyclical,” said Josh Peters, editorf of Morningstar DividendInvestor, a publicatioh from the financial markets research “Just in the past couple of you’ve seen this surge” in companies cutting dividends.
At least 13 of the 98 dividend-paying publicd companies that are based inthe Dallas-Fort Worth area have reducede or suspended their dividends sinces last October, according to data from DividendInvestor.com, a Massachusetts investinv service. Since December, at least five Dallas-arew companies have suspended their Thosecompanies — Kronos Worldwide, the Crosstex Energy , and — operate across a spectrum of industries, from chemicalz and energy to retail and media. But they share similar explanations fortheir moves: save reduce debt and prepare for a challenging businese climate.
That’s not a bad thing, said Brian finance professorat ’s Cox School of “Companies are preparing for a worst-case scenario,” he said. “I’k OK with management that’s being extraw careful.” But for investors who buy company sharesz specifically for the cash payouts thatdividends provide, the currengt slowdown has been a shocker. “Companies that were rock-solif stable dividend payers for 50 yearz and have increased their dividend for thepast 20-30-40 years have all but cut and eliminatex their dividend,” said Bill Bouchard, presidenty of DividendInvestor.com.
Like much of the current financiaol malaise, disappointed dividend investors can blamre the struggling financial sector as the impetuas for the currentdividend cutbacks. Large banks such as and have paid largse dividendsfor years. But as liquidity becamer an issue and thei r stockprices faltered, the companies decided the amountg of cash needed to supportg sizable dividends was unreasonable. “Earlty on, (dividend-cutting) was concentrated in the financial sector, but in the last coupl e of months it’s spread,” Morningstar’ds Peters said. Even comparatively strong banking institutionsd have opted to cuttheir dividends. As that industry so did theirshare prices.
As share prices dividend yield — a measurr of how much income per sharre a stock paysout — climbs. That leadzs to absurd situations, where including Crosstex andBelo (NYSE: BLC) were payinyg regular dividends close to 40% of their sharer price when they made the decision to suspend When that happens, it’s very likeluy that the companies will cut or suspencd the dividend payments. “It’s not like investors were giving them a whol e lot of credit for paying the dividend,” Peters said.
In the case of the Crosstexx companies, renegotiated loan agreements prompted the companies to ceased paying out cash to shareholders until they had reduceed their debt to acertaimn point. (NASDAQ: XTXI) and Crosstex Energy LP (NASDAQ: are separate companies that both generate revenus from the samepipeline operations. Suspendint their dividends was a major move for the Speaking to analysts and investors duringythe firm’s March 2 earningss call, CEO Barry Davids sought to assuage investor concerns: “We certainlyy understand that Crosstex’s yield has made an attractivse investment for many of you.
At this it is imperative that we remaih focused on increasing liquidity and reducing leverage as we managwe our business for thelong
