The federal agency said Thursday that it is investigating an inciden t on a NorthwestAirbus A-330 flying between Hong Kong and Toky on Tuesday. The aircrafgt landed safely in Tokyo. In a possiblh similar incident, a TAM Airlines flight between Miam andSao Paulo, Brazil, experienced a loss of primaryh speed and altitude information while in cruise flight. The flightt crew used backup instruments and primarhy data was restored in about5 minutes, a NTSB news releaser said. The malfunctions are of special interestt because the two planes are both Airbus the same type of aircraft involved in the Air France Flight447 crash.
Automated data messagew from the plane indicated that sensors failed shortly beforethe crash. Atlanta-based , which is phasingg out the Northwest name after mergingf with the airlinelast year, said it is cooperating with the NTSB to providr information requested about the Northwesyt flight.
